Lyon is the capital of the Rhone Alps region and was classed by UNESCO as a World Heritage City in December 1998. The Romans initially called Lyon "Lugdunum" and saw it as an important crossroads between the Mediterranean and the north of Europe, the Atlantic and the Alps. Today, it is recognised as the second city in France offering a mix of architecture, people and cultures. Old Lyon is probably the most charming area of Lyon and is divided into 3 villages, which are home to Europe's largest collection of Renaissance Buildings. Bouchons, or small restaurants, fill the narrow winding streets and Lyon is famous for them as well as cafes, pubs and street performers. Art lovers should look out for the workshops of the local artist and sculptors. Before you leave, you must climb to the top of Notre Dame de Fourviere to see the spectacular view of the city below. Historians will love visiting the Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilisation to enjoy seeing the Roman artefacts found in the Rhone Valley. Music lovers will have to allow time in their busy itinerary to attend a concert in the Roman Amphitheatre next door or at the National Opera House. Shopaholics will want to visit the fashionable shops in Rue Victor Hugo, which is located on the peninsula between the two rivers before dining as one of the numerous restaurants in the beautiful Place des Terreaux. Another fascinating place to visit before leaving Lyon to discover the surrounding areas is the Lumiere Institute, which recognises the Lumiere Brothers' contribution to cinema. From here you can choose to travel north, south, east or west. Perhaps after a little culture in the city you will opt to head for the Med, passing through Marseille on your way, basing yourself at a delightful little family-run campsite in Frejus or St-Raphael to enjoy the beaches and soak up the sun before returning home.
Check which RV most suits your requirements - campervans, caravanettes, and motor homes are all available. Make your choice and reserve early to avoid disappointment. You're sure to have a fabulous time as you explore all that Lyon and the Rhone valley have to offer. When you tell your family and friends back home what a wonderful holiday you had, they, too, are sure to want to hire touring homes and campervans from us for their next holiday - what better recommendation than coming from you? Your quoted rate will be the best we can offer, and will suit every budget and offer value for money. The range of recreational vehicles is extensive, so select the one you want to rent from motoring homes to 4 wheel drive to deluxe spacious 7 berth mobile homes. If you're arriving at the airport from the UK or elsewhere, your rental campavan will be readily awaiting your arrival for your trip to discover this amazing area. Enjoy touring France in a motorhome!
